The installation of your dog door or cat flap

If you can make the hole in the door or wall yourself, the rest of the work is very easy. No fiddling about with small, fragile parts: only high-quality materials that are a pleasure to work with. A fun project for a handy DIYer.

And in Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain and California (US) we have installers, so you can include the installation in your online order. We will then contact you a few days later to arrange the installation date. Very comfortable: we install with little dust and take all waste with us.

Our installation service

Do we install or DIY?

In Belgium, it’s our own staff who install the Tomsgates doors and flaps. In the Netherlands, Great Britain and California (US) we organise this in collaboration with local permanent partners. We therefore guarantee service and quality.

We install our dog doors and cat flaps in walls and doors. Installation in a door takes us about 2 hours, an installation in a wall around 5.

We are punctual, use dust extraction, take the waste materials with us, and leave the room in a clean and orderly condition. The price is set in advance, no bills will be submitted later. If you have an VAT advantage (see further below), we will refund any excess VAT you may have paid within 14 days after the installation.

How does it work?

Choose your desired flap.

Choose the appropriate size, determine whether it’s going to be a dog door or a cat flap in a door or a wall, and chose the desired finish.

Proposed installation date and time.

When you place your order, we will immediately try to find an opening in our schedule. We then discuss with you whether this date would be convenient.

Choose the installation service with your order.

When you select the installation service, you will immediately see how much the installations costs are for the pet door of your choice. Any VAT rebates are processed after the installation.

Install and clean up.

After the installation, we leave everything in a clean and orderly condition. When there is a VAT advantage still to be settled, we will ask you to sign an affidavit for the installation and the difference will then be refunded.

How much?

Because of this VAT-advantage you now pay for the installation of a flap in a door just €176 on top of the price of the pet door without installation. For an installation in a wall you pay €286. If we take care of the installation, you pay just 6 percent VAT on the pet door as well as on the installation service, whereas otherwise you would pay 21 percent without installation.

Conditions?

The pet door must be installed in Belgium in a house that has been in use for more than 10 years. The house is used fully or primarily for private purposes and the customer is themselves owner, renter or usufructuary of the property.

How?

In our web shop you pay the full 21% VAT on your order. After installation we repay the excess VAT amount within 14 days. After all, the VAT rebate can only be awarded at the moment you sign the affidavit and your house meets the conditions. Our installer will bring the affidavit with him for you to sign.

Tips & Tricks

The installation template

Every pet door includes an installation template made of sturdy cardboard with a protective edge. Follow the dotted line for sawing out the hole in the door or hacking out the opening in the wall. The extra cardboard protective edge will help you keep the door or wall free of tool marks.

The exact location of the door

When you have measured out where you want to place the door, you first drill a hole in the door or wall. Then you can take the precise measurement of the pet door to see whether it is positioned exactly where you want it to be, both on the in and the outside. Measure twice, saw or hack after.

Wind and waterproof

Once the pet door has been installed, use silicone kit to seal the seam between the frame and the door or wall all the way round. You will see that the outer frame is already fitted with a swell seal to guarantee a proper connection, but this is the secondary protection. The first one is your silicone kit seam. This ensures that neither wind nor water can enter through the installation opening. In the case of a pet door in a wall, it is recommended to seal the edge of the interior wall with PU foam to ensure no wind can enter from the cavity wall.

First paint, then install

If you have bought a natural coloured pet door flap that you would like to paint, do so before the installation. Painting is of course done much more conveniently on a workbench than on your knees in front of a door.
